Final 24 Second Video Edit Evaluation

Updated: Mar 29, 2022

For the first sample I think it turned out okay however there were a few things I wanted to change. The images I used have all been taken within the timeframe of this module. I wanted to add life to the images so I decided to find a sound or music that goes with the animations and transitions so it looks put together and also explores the notions of memories and how sounds can play an instrumental part of storing a core memory. One thing I wanted to keep was keeping the video as a portrait because it gives a nostalgic feeling which refers back to my whole narrative about memories and the importance of memories. I was not sure about the first few transitions in the first half of the video but I wanted continue to experiment with them to see what looks better and what went better with any potential sounds that I chose.

For the second sample I was experimenting with how the lyrics would look like and how the transitions would look like on each image. I kept how the images transition into each other because I liked how it looked. One thing I did was add motion blur to the pictures so create an effect of a memory I reduced the motion blur to 65% in order to be able to see the images somewhat clearly.

At that point I liked how it was turning out and I actually quiet liked the choice of font too. It was time consuming to make sure each word or letter aligns to when he is saying the words during the song. I liked the song choice and how the video gives a reminiscing feel and how it feels like its a trip down memory lane. This further accentuates my point of how each picture can capture moments and make you feel like you are living in the moment all over again.

For the third sample sample I wanted to keep it somewhat similar however after finding out that you could not include images taken outside of the module timeframe , I removed those images from video sample one and two and included images that I took recently. For this sample its 25 seconds and the type is a little delayed towards the ending due to the fact that I was experimenting with the different images and how it would look edited with different transitions. I really like this sample due to the fact that it has more sunsets in it in comparison to the previous samples. I think for the final I will edit it so the type is not delayed and also make it 24 seconds.

For the music choices I was quiet adamant that I wanted a song from my favourite artist called , Santan Dave because his songs have meaning and are very relatable. He articulates himself in such a beautiful way using double entendre metaphors and similes which makes me lyrically talented. However when it came to song choices I didn't know whether I wanted to go for something more focused on good vibes and having fun or if I wanted something with meaning which is more deep.

Due to fact that I wanted to make this project personal I wanted to include things that have a special meaning to me. I decided to go for a song with meaning which talks about quiet important topics in this day and age and which appeals to people in my age bracket.

I was conflicted between two songs in particular which are my favourites from Dave called "how I met my ex" on the Game over EP or "Lesley" From the Psychodrama. I didn't know whether I wanted to focus on on the relationship aspect of the song or more on mental health.

The song "how I met my ex" is a song about Dave's personal experience and all the things he did and didn't do during his relationships. What I like about Dave is that although you might not have experienced exactly what he is talking about he has that element of relatability which allows him to appeal to a wider audience.

Similarly the song "Lesley" is a Storytime which talks about a girl called "Lesley" who he meets on the train, she is in an abusive relationship with her boyfriend Jason and Dave talks about how he has seen women who he loves go through that. The song focuses on the mental health of Lesley due to her really bad circumstances and Dave gives advice to women at the end of the song saying its never to late to leave that type of situation and that there is always people who are willing to help. After some careful consideration I decided to go with "Lesley" by Dave ft Ruelle. But I wanted to put this specific part of the song in my 24 second video.

"It's emotional obsession, clinical depression Life is a lesson And you ain't got to sit and cry And Lesley, living in this gift called life There's no better gift than the gift of life So, can you handle it?

I don't know myself I don't know myself no more"

I like the fact that Dave talks about Mental health so openly. It allows the youth to feel more comfortable and able to talk about their mental health more openly. This relates to the point I made earlier about Dave giving an element of relatability where people can relate something he is talking about.

For my final video I made sure the edits were exactly how I wanted them to be. Aligning the text with the song was quiet time consuming and difficult which is why it took majority of my time when it came to editing. As for transitions and images, due to the fact that I knew where I wanted to take this project I had a rough idea of what images I wanted to use so I decided on my aesthetic earlier on. My project focuses on memories and how pictures can capture a moment and bring back those emotions and feelings when you view the images later.

It took a lot of editing and taking time out to decide what looked better. There were big and minor changes such as changing the pictures as well as rearranging the order of pictures which made a huge different and contributed to the feel and aesthetic of the video as well as the impact of the lyrics on the screen.

Overall I am really happy with how it turned out. I think keeping to the 24 second mark was quiet hard because it was very easy to go overboard and find yourself editing the video at the 60 second mark but I was able to rearrange the pictures and choose what looked the best and conveyed feelings along wit the lyrics. I am glad about how I was able to incorporate some of my favourite things into one video, from my love for taking pictures and capturing the moment to having the lyrics of my favourite artist throughout the video. I think this is a sentimental piece which means a lot to me and I enjoyed doing this project as it allowed me to delve into my hobbies and things that are meaningful to me while still exploring the idea of memories and how a sequence of different pictures can take you back to that specific memory and allow you to feel those emotions as if you are reliving the moment all over again.
